Structures at the District Highway and PWD Yard, as well as buildings along the roadside on the Wa Highway, have been pulled down to clear space for the project. Construction work in the district is expected to commence today.

The start of the project comes after months of public concern over delays, with residents noting that many other districts across the country had already begun similar developments under the 24-Hour Economy policy.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Sinkina Saaka, had earlier assured residents that Sawla-Tuna-Kalba would not be left out. The commencement of demolition works has been welcomed as a sign of that commitment.

While many residents commend the DCE and government for fulfilling the promise, some critics remain skeptical. They question whether the demolition will translate into tangible development or end up as another exercise that displaces structures without results.

The 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to create jobs, boost trade, and improve economic activity in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and neighboring districts once completed.
