The Pru East District Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), officially launched the "My First Day at School" program on September 8, 2026. The annual initiative is designed to welcome newly enrolled kindergarten and primary school pupils, with the goal of boosting attendance, reducing dropout rates, and instilling a positive attitude toward education from an early age.

Stakeholders Visit Schools

The event featured visits to various schools across the district by key stakeholders, including District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Alhaji Abdul Nasir, Member of Parliament Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, representatives from Ghana Districts, and education officials led by Pru East Director of Education, Mr. Sylvester Tabiasi-Naa.

Director Encourages Early Enrollment

During an exclusive interview with Ghana Districts, Mr. Tabiasi-Naa encouraged parents and guardians to enroll their children at the right age to ensure access to basic education. He stressed the importance of making the first day of school memorable to spark excitement and enthusiasm among new pupils, while emphasizing that early childhood education serves as the critical foundation for lifelong learning and development.

Schools Visited

The delegation, led by the DCE and the MP, visited several schools to personally welcome students and offer words of encouragement. The schools visited included:

· Kwayease Primary School

· Yeji Kpodzi EP Primary School

· Aliman Islamic Primary School

· Yeji Presby Primary School

At each stop, the dignitaries engaged with the children in parades and participated in interactive activities designed to ease first-day jitters and make the young learners feel comfortable.

DCE's Commitment to Education

Addressing the gatherings, Hon. Alhaji Abdul Nasir—popularly known as "Burger Nash"—reaffirmed the Assembly's dedication to education as a cornerstone of the district's development agenda. He highlighted that starting school early and receiving a quality education are vital steps toward securing a brighter future. The DCE also commended teachers and parents for their roles in nurturing young minds and called for continued collaboration to ensure universal access to education in the district.

Addressing Infrastructure and Staffing Challenges

During the visits, school leaders presented a list of pressing challenges, including:

· Shortages of teaching staff

· Inadequate furniture

· Lack of electricity in some schools

· Gaps in the School Feeding Program

· The need for modern toilet facilities

In response, the DCE and the Pru East District Assembly promised to address these issues immediately, assuring the schools of their commitment to creating a conducive learning environment.
