The project, valued at over GH¢10 million, will provide each community with a six-unit classroom block, a six-unit teachers’ quarters, and a six-seater toilet facility to replace the dilapidated structures currently being used by the schools.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held at Danyaw Kuraa, was performed by the District Chief Executive for Wa East, Sayibu Adamu, on behalf of the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw.
Speaking at the ceremony, the DCE noted that the intervention had become necessary due to the poor condition of the existing school buildings, which continue to affect teaching and learning in the communities. He emphasized that education remains a key priority despite the infrastructural challenges facing the district.
Headteacher of Dabilipuo D/A Primary School, Salifu Issahaque Kunateh, described the current mud-brick structures as unsafe, especially during the rainy season, adding that the situation has contributed to declining pupil enrolment over the years.
Traditional leaders in both communities expressed appreciation to the government for the intervention and appealed for the speedy completion of the projects.
Contractor for the project, Sidik Seidu of T.A. Tanko Enterprise, assured residents of quality work and disclosed that although the official completion period is one year, efforts would be made to complete the project within six months.
The project is expected to improve learning conditions, increase enrolment, and enhance teacher retention in the beneficiary communities.
