Keta Municipal Assembly Inaugurates Persons Living with Albinism Association to Promote Inclusion

The Keta Municipal Assembly, through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has inaugurated the Persons Living with Albinism Association (PLWA) in the municipality as part of efforts to promote inclusion, equal opportunities, and the protection of the rights of persons living with albinism.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Keta Municipal Health Directorate Conference Room, brought together officials from the Keta Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Health Directorate, members of the Disability Fund Management Committee, development partners, and other stakeholders committed to advancing disability inclusion within the municipality.

Addressing participants, the Unit Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Robert Kotey Ashie, said the formation of the association would provide a united platform for persons living with albinism to advocate for their rights, access essential support services, and actively participate in leadership and decision-making processes. He noted that the association would also enable members to take part in future elections of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD).

The event also featured goodwill messages from Mr. Saviour Agbeviade, who represented the Municipal Coordinating Director, and Mr. Mensah Djadoo, Southern Volta Coordinator of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism (GAPA).

As part of the programme, participants received health education on proper skin care and eye protection to help address some of the health challenges commonly associated with albinism. The ceremony concluded with the official swearing-in of the association's executives and members.

The Keta Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to creating an inclusive municipality where persons living with albinism and other persons with disabilities are empowered, valued, and provided with equal opportunities to participate fully in community development, in line with the principle of leaving no one behind.
