Grade C6 to be cut-off point for colleges of education - Dr Yaw Adutwum

The Minister of Education in charge of general education, Dr Yaw Adutwum, has disclosed that, Collage of Educations across the country will no more accept grade D7 as a cutoff point to admit students in the 2019/2020 academic year.

The minister made this known when he was speaking on secondary Education Reforms, Free Senior High School Programme (FSHSP) and School Ranking System at a Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service Secondary Education Improvement project orientation workshop, for selected journalist across the country on 8th February, 2017 in Accra at Akanic Hotel.

The minister said, as part of the current educational reforms, the cutoff point for collage of educations will be grade C6 and not grade D7.

Dr. added that as part of the reforms, they are going to train all head teachers to be able to use collected data to improve upon their performance at the secondary education level across various schools in the country, this he said will aid the ministry to rank the performance of the schools at the end of every year. The ranking will be done by grouping schools with similar features.

The minister also said, the ministry will be giving enough training to teachers as to how to adopt the best practices in teaching at the secondary and lower levels of education.

According to him one of the surest ways to better education is the introduction of the Free Senior high school policy by the Npp Government to support parents who could not afford to pay their children school fees,

The Free High School programme is a flagship intervention by the Government of Ghana to widen the gates of opportunities to every child in Ghana.

Under the policy, all cost to education has been absorbed by the Government.it would improve quality, address equality issues associated with education in the country and, importantly, ensure that every child acquires employable skills by the time he or she leaves school.

The Bosomtwe constituency legistlature, was also quick to add that, Government of Ghana has allocated enough funds to the ministry for the implementation of the Free Senior High school programme, he also dismissed claims that the NPP Government is planning to established an education fund that will cater for the programme, but, it was a suggestion from business persons diaspora and some business firms in Ghana that had said if they could be a fund where they could all contribute to, to support the programme, and that has informed the finance minister to pronounced that the ministry is planning of establishing an education fund.

The World Bank sponsored workshop started on 8th February, 2018 is expected to end on 9th February, 2018
