LAWRA: Let's grow local economy by creating local businesses - MCE

Mr. Martin Domotiere Bomba-Ire, the Lawra Municipal Chief Executive has said the Assembly would continue with its efforts to grow the local economy by creating an enabling environment for local businesses to thrive.

He said, in furtherance of that, the Assembly has facilitated the process for some 762 micro and small enterprises and farmer-based organisations, comprising 544 females and 218 males to access credit facility of GHs783, 520.00 from the Rural Enterprise Development Fund (REDF) to grow their businesses.

The MCE made this known at a “Meet the Press” encounter at held Lawra over the weekend to announce the activities of the Assembly and efforts being made to improve the livelihoods of the people.“Let me also add that MASSLOC has disbursed loans to the tune of about GHs323, 000.00 to women groups in the Municipality”, Mr. Bomba-Ire said.

He said developing local businesses would create the needed jobs for the teeming youth in the Municipality adding that the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) at the Assembly has trained 541 persons on critical components of business development including business financial management and leadership skills development.

This, he said, would enable them to manage their businesses effectively to achieve the needed results. “In the same vein, government through the Rural Enterprise Programme, has constructed a soybeans processing centre at Eremon Kakaltuo.

Construction work has been completed and machines are yet to be installed to make the facility ready to be used”, Mr. Bomba-Ire said.

On-road infrastructure, the MCE said government through the Assembly is rehabilitating some roads in the Municipality, including the Babile and Lawra-Domwine roads to boost economic activities in the area.

Other road projects Mr Bomba-Ire cited include the rehabilitation of the Lawra By-pass road, rehabilitation of Tanchara-Koro-Degri road, and the rehabilitation of the Eremon-Dazuuri road amongst others.
