Presenting his first quarter update at a media briefing on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Minister assured that the process would be human-centered and technology-driven.
As such there won't be long queues and people would not be saddled with having to abandon their work for long hours as they would be able to conduct the registration at the comfort of their homes online.
He said the system that is being deployed for the exercise will automatically verify citizens’ information, thus reducing time spent on manual processing. This streamlined process aims to save citizens time and increase accuracy, making the registration experience more convenient.
Additionally, the Minister said there will also be Central Equipment Identity Register to enhance the system.
He said the registration is critical for our collective security as a nation.
He argued that the state through its security agencies needs to identify persons of interest using their SIM Cards. However, the previous SIM Card Registration that Ghanaians were subjected to did no verification at the back-end. As such the situation needs to be corrected to curtail fraudulent activities and crimes carried out using unregistered SIM cards, or SIM cards registered in the name of people without their consent. Thus people can be traced to their SIM Cards as well phones.
He assured that when the whole process is done it will improve safety of people's phones as well as those who engage in phone snatching would be thrown out of job because even phones could be traced or blocked so nobody can use it.
