The fertilizer, comprising NPK and Urea, is expected to support farmers in registered Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs) and other recognised stakeholder groups as part of efforts to boost agricultural production and strengthen food security in the municipality.
Beneficiary groups and stakeholders include the Zongo Farmers Association, Seed Growers Association, Assembly Members, Wenchi Traditional Council, Local Council of Churches, Muslim Council and Federation of Persons with Disabilities, among others.
Addressing beneficiary farmer groups, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, religious bodies and other stakeholders at a brief handing-over ceremony, MCE Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi highlighted the objectives of the Feed Ghana Programme, which include improving food security, reducing dependence on food imports, creating jobs, enhancing participation in agriculture and increasing agricultural production.

She explained that the distribution was intended to encourage institutional farming and empower farmers belonging to registered groups to increase their productivity and contribute to the municipality’s agricultural development.
In all, 33 Farmer-Based Organisations (FBOs) are expected to benefit from the intervention.
Receiving the fertilizer on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel K. Afful, explained that the inclusion of traditional authorities, faith-based organisations and other identifiable groups was designed to promote institutional farming under the Feed Ghana Programme.
He noted that the fertilizer distribution formed part of the Crop Development Module with Input Support, under which targeted agricultural inputs are provided to eligible farmers to support crop production.

The initiative forms part of government’s broader agricultural support programmes implemented through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), with fertilizer allocations channelled through Regional and District Agricultural Directorates to registered farming groups.
The beneficiaries are expected to complete the required verification processes through the District Agriculture Office before receiving their allocated inputs.
The Wenchi Municipal Assembly expressed the expectation that the fertilizer support would help farmers improve crop yields, strengthen local food production and contribute to the broader objective of making agriculture a stronger source of livelihoods and economic activity within the municipality.
