The approval was granted during a meeting between the Traditional Council and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly held on Thursday, April 9, 2026. At the meeting, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, presented the project components and outlined the modalities for its implementation.

The meeting aimed, among other things, to deepen stakeholder consultations, solicit inputs, approve a suitable location, and seek the blessings of the Chiefs (Nananom) for the successful execution of the project.

The 24-Hour Model Market initiative is a flagship economic policy under President John Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy. The modern, round-the-clock, one-stop economic hubs are designed to stimulate local economic growth, create employment opportunities, increase tax revenue, and reduce congestion within market centres.

The project also seeks to build or rehabilitate modern market infrastructure and services. Each model market is expected to cover at least four acres and will include modern stalls, cold storage facilities, warehouses, banking services, childcare centres, clinics, and security posts for the Police and Fire Service to ensure 24-hour safety and operational efficiency.
