Asutifi South: Professional Farmers College trains Rice Farmers

Asutifi South District in conjunction with the Professional Farmers College (PFC) has organized a training workshop for rice farmers at Acherensua in the Brong Ahafo region dubbed “The farming business model to increase yield.”

The training is to equip farmers with a more advanced methods of planting, caring, harvesting, processing and packaging for the market and improved way of storage of rice in order to improve and increase yield for bumper harvest to be able to feed all the SHS and basic schools within the catchment area and the general public.



Speaking at the programe, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Robert Dwomoh Mensah stated that, since his assumption as the first gentleman of the district, he had a meeting with the farmers he realized that if they are giving some training, rice production in the area will increase.

Mr. Dwomoh Mensah used the medium to appeal to the various banking institutions in the district to give loans to farmers in the farming based groups to increase their production capacity. He reiterated that “This will increase rice production for local consumption and for export."



The Professional Farmer’s College led by Dr. Noah Owusu -Takyi, an internationally accredited agronomist took farmers through, land registration, managing a bank account, documentation of land, application of chemicals and fertilizer. Other important area that was touched was health and safety tips in the farming business among others.
