The initiative forms part of broader government efforts to increase agricultural productivity, strengthen food security and improve the livelihoods of farmers.

The brief but significant ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong; Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Rahman Salam; Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Paul Addai; Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Isaac Kusi Amponsah; Heads of Departments; Extension Officers; and representatives of various farmer groups.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Frimpong expressed appreciation to the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, for fulfilling the government's commitment to supporting Ghanaian farmers with free fertilisers and other essential agricultural inputs.

He disclosed that a total of 1,500 bags of fertiliser had been allocated to the municipality, comprising 1,000 bags of NPK and 500 bags of Urea and Ammonia.

Hon. Frimpong also encouraged the youth to consider agriculture as a viable and profitable enterprise, stressing that the government was committed to making the sector more attractive through the provision of free inputs, mechanisation services and other support systems aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Paul Addai, thanked the President and the Minister for Food and Agriculture for their continued commitment to food security and the welfare of farmers.

He also commended the Municipal Chief Executive for his facilitation and logistical support towards the initiative.

Mr. Addai noted that the fertiliser distribution would significantly boost agricultural productivity in the coming farming season. He revealed that a total of 750 farmers were expected to benefit from the initiative under the Feed Ghana Programme, with special attention to youth and women.

According to him, the intervention would promote youth participation in agriculture, create employment opportunities and enhance food security across the municipality.

He further highlighted other interventions being implemented under the Feed Ghana Programme, including the distribution of 10,000 birds and coconut seedlings to farmers.

Mr. Addai said the programme had already begun yielding positive results in the municipality, with several farmers recording increased crop yields.

On accountability, Mr. Addai explained that extensive follow-up and monitoring would be conducted to ensure that beneficiaries applied the fertilisers appropriately and derived maximum benefits from the intervention.

He urged all beneficiaries to make prudent use of the inputs to improve their agricultural productivity, increase yields and enhance their livelihoods.
