President commissions Youth Resource Centre at Koforidua

The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned a multi-purpose Youth Resource Centre in Koforidua in the Eastern Region to augment youth development in the country.

The resource centre which was formerly Koforidua Sports Stadium was built to resource the youth in sporting disciplines. It contains 5000-seater capacity which includes VIP and public stands.

Others include volleyball court, basketball court, 8 lanes track for athletes, tennis arena, counselling centre, among others to serve its purpose of promoting youth development in the region and the country at large.

His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo in his speech said, the youth serve as the architect for every developing nation, therefore, rich policies have been laid down to secure the teaming youth in the country.



He reiterated that, youth are the backbone of every country, but youth unemployment has become one major challenge in West Africa including Ghana of which the government is keenly focusing on the youth by creating job opportunities for the youth in Ghana.

The President noted that, Ghana Enterprise Agency has been established to support and train young entrepreneurs in managerial skills. Again, He said the government is poised to directly generate over twenty thousand (20,000) local job opportunities for the young graduates in the year 2024.



The Eastern Regional Minister Seth K. Acheampong was full of admiration for the government for putting up a sporting edifice for the good people of Koforidua and its environs. He added that, youth empowerment is the core and the strength of every nation, as the youth is the gateway to equity, civil management, and democracy.

He added that youth with good education, innovation, psychological development, poverty reduction, good governance and transformation will lead to positive change in the society.



The Regional Minister thanked the President for putting up 13 Astro turfs within the region which is sign of developing sports and the human resource in the country.

Pius Enam Hadzide, Chief Executive Office for National Youth Authority in his speech commended the President for his unflinching support for youth development in the country.

He noted that, the sports complex is with the vision to nurture youth potentials in all sorts of sporting disciplines.

He emphasised on maintenance culture saying, National Youth Authority under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports will ensure that the projects strategically focused on enhancing user experience to deal with activities that will endanger the facility.



The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif prioritize and announce the government policies on enhancing sports in the country. He mentioned all major stadia being renovated by the government and mentioned that one hundred and fifty-four (154) Astro turfs has been constructed across the country.

The event was witnessed by by some high profile personalities including the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III, Adwesohene, Nana Tete Pimpong, Alhaji Yussif Suleimana Hamdani-Eastern Regional Chief Imam among others.
