Agblonu Residents Celebrate As James Gunu Delivers Solar-Powered Water Facility

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has marked his birthday by commissioning a solar-powered mechanised borehole at Agblonu in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region, providing the community with an improved source of potable water.

The commissioning ceremony brought together the Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, the Akatsi North NDC Constituency Chairman, Dr. Richard Awudza, constituency and branch executives, as well as chiefs, elders and residents of Agblonu.

The facility is equipped with a 3-kilowatt solar power system and a 10,000-litre overhead storage tank, designed to provide a more reliable water supply to residents of Agblonu and surrounding communities.

The intervention is expected to improve access to safe drinking water while supporting better sanitation, hygiene and public health outcomes in the community.

Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. James Gunu said he chose to mark his birthday by contributing to the development and wellbeing of the people, rather than making the occasion solely about personal celebration.

He emphasised the importance of access to safe and reliable water to the health and socio-economic development of communities, noting that the facility would help reduce challenges residents face in obtaining potable water.

The Akatsi North DCE, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, expressed appreciation for the intervention and urged the people of Agblonu to take ownership of the facility, maintain it properly and use it responsibly to ensure its sustainability.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking Hon. Gunu's birthday on September 21, 2026, turning the celebration into a community development initiative.

The project adds to ongoing efforts to improve access to potable water across the Akatsi North District, where several mechanised boreholes have also been commissioned in other communities
