TANO S: WASH team celebrates International Women's Day

The theme for the celebration," Empowering Women through Safe Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene “was amplified in various activities organized throughout the day, including a float, drama display, and a mini durbar to climax the occasion.
Addressing the durbar, the Tano South Municipal Coordinating Director, who is the patron of WASH Mr. Augustine Peprah, acknowledged the vital role women play in maintaining sanitation in both households and the broader community.
Emphasizing on the theme for the day, he explained that women's empowerment is crucial in building a healthier and more sustainable communities.
He expressed gratitude to the WASH Team for their tireless efforts in supporting the community's WASH initiatives through continuous water and sanitization education and launched the WASH toll-free line and urged the public to call whenever they encounter any water and sanitation-related issues, assuring of a prompt respond to their concerns.
Bringing his address to an end Mr. Augustine Peprah made a courtesy call, urging everyone to play a role to ensure proper sanitation in the Tano south Municipality.
The WASH Team also utilized the occasion to educate the public on the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene. Quoting the old adage" water is life ' the team highlighted the need to safeguard our river bodies from being polluted, to prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases like cholera.
They explained that the government has introduced an initiative to ensure that every household has access to a toilet facility, to prevent open defecation and preserve the safety of our water bodies.
The team urged landlords and individuals interested in installing toilet facilities to contact the Environmental and Sanitation Office for assistance.
They reiterated the toll-free number urging the public to call for a swift respond to water and sanitation-related issues.
The NCCE Director for Tano South, Czarina Enyo Akua Fiawotso, lauded the Team for their effort in making this year’s Women’s Day celebration a memorable.
She added that as we celebrate women's achievements, we should also recognize the challenges ahead and the need to reaffirm our commitment to promoting gender equality and creating opportunities for women to thrive.
She called on parents to educate their male children from an early stage on the need to respect women's views.
In a short but inspiring address, the Social Welfare Director, Mrs. Gladys Zuuri, said women are exceptional in their own unique ways, and when united, they can achieve even greater success in promoting gender equality.
She cited Beijing conference 30 years ago, as an example where unity among women led to successful amplification of their voices. Mrs. Zuuri emphasized that this achievement can be replicated today, inspiring a new generation of women to unite and make their voices heard.
She encouraged young girls to look up to high-profile women like the Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jean Naana Opoku Agyemang, as role models to inspire and shape their lives.
In conclusion, Mrs. Azuri praised the women of Tano South for their resilience, strength, and determination, adding that together, they can build a brighter future for themselves, their children, and the community.
The Chairman of WASH and Nifahene of the Bechem Traditional Council, Nana Awuah Boadi, thanked the Coordinating Director and the WASH Team for organizing a successful and educative durbar.
He called on Nananom and all stakeholders to join hands with the WASH Team to enhance women's empowerment and the community’s well-being.
