The residents are appealing to the government and relevant authorities to urgently address the water crisis, which continues to affect households in the two communities.

According to a report by 3News, the communities, which have a combined population of about 500 people, lack boreholes and pipe-borne water systems, leaving residents dependent on potentially contaminated groundwater sources for their daily water needs. The situation has raised concerns about the availability of safe drinking water and the potential health risks facing residents, particularly children and other vulnerable members of the communities.

The residents are calling on the government and relevant stakeholders to provide reliable sources of potable water to ease their difficulties and improve living conditions.

Access to safe drinking water remains essential to public health, sanitation and community development. The absence of dependable water infrastructure places additional pressure on households and exposes residents to possible water-related illnesses. The threatened election boycott reflects residents' concerns over the persistent water challenges and their appeal for authorities to respond to their needs. The situation highlights the importance of expanding water infrastructure in rural communities across the Bia East District.

The District Assembly and relevant water sector institutions have a role to play in identifying underserved communities and supporting interventions that improve access to safe and reliable drinking water.

Addressing the concerns raised by residents of Atabat Nkwanta and Atakona would help improve public health, strengthen sanitation practices and support the overall well-being of the affected communities.

The residents are hopeful that the appropriate authorities will respond to their concerns and take steps to provide sustainable water facilities.
