Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Gets 60-Bed Emergency Unit as MCE Olivia Bentil Leads Healthcare Push

Healthcare delivery in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District is set for a major transformation following the sod-cutting ceremony for a new 60-bed Emergency Unit at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital (OLGH), Breman Asikuma.

The ceremony was attended by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Olivia Bentil, Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Ghansah, representatives of the MTN Foundation, MTN Scancom Business, management of OLGH, traditional authorities and other stakeholders.

The new Emergency Unit is expected to significantly expand the hospital’s emergency care capacity and improve residents’ access to timely, quality and efficient emergency healthcare services.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Olivia Bentil described the project as a significant intervention that would help address critical healthcare needs in the district and strengthen the hospital’s capacity to respond to emergencies.

She noted that access to quality healthcare remained a major priority for the Assembly and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting projects that directly improve the wellbeing of residents.

Following the sod-cutting ceremony, the DCE and other stakeholders inspected the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern Surgical Theatre at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital.

The Surgical Theatre, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), is expected to further strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised surgical and other critical healthcare services.

Hon. Bentil said the two interventions demonstrated what could be achieved when government, the District Assembly, private-sector partners, healthcare institutions and traditional authorities worked together towards a common goal.

She expressed appreciation to the MTN Foundation, MTN Scancom Business, management of OLGH, Dr. Ishmael Yamson, Hon. Harry Yamson, Nananom and all other partners for their contributions towards improving healthcare infrastructure in the district.

According to the DCE, the Assembly would continue to collaborate with development partners and other stakeholders to attract and support projects that address pressing healthcare needs.

The completion of the 60-bed Emergency Unit and the ultra-modern Surgical Theatre is expected to position the Our Lady of Grace Hospital as an even stronger centre for emergency and specialised healthcare delivery in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District.

Hon. Olivia Bentil reaffirmed her commitment to building a district where residents can access quality healthcare without having to travel long distances for essential medical services.
