The Kumawu District Assembly is to institute measures to mobilise more revenue for development in the district.

The measures includes a bye-law to be promulgated to give backing to the revenue task force; educating community members on the fee fixing and payable rates; and identifying new revenue areas to increase internally generated fund.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon Samuel Asiamah announced this at the general assembly meeting held on Thursday, 24th April, 2014 at the district assembly hall, Kumawu.

He was of the view that, even though revenue generated last year was high, 93%, there was the need to explore other avenues to mobilize more funds.

“To achieve that the revenue taskforce should be empowered and have the backing of the assembly”, Hon Asiamah noted. Last year the assembly’s expected revenue was GH₵282, 853.00, however GH₵263,552.54 was realized.

For this reason the executive committee of the assembly has appointed some assembly members to see to it that the assembly has a bye-law by the end of June, 2014.

This would enable the assembly to have the backing of the law to prosecute defaulters.

On this note, the DCE entreated the assembly members to educate their community members on the new rates and also endeavour to look for new avenues to increase revenue mobilization.


Security
In trerms of security, Hon Asiamah said, the district experienced quite a peaceful atmosphere though, some pockets of riot occurred with few ared robbery.

“It was on a minimal scale as compared to the previous year”, the DCE asserted. He also called on the assembly members to advise the youth in their localities to refrain from the Kumawu Chieftaincy Dispute and allow the kingmakers to do their work.

Economy
On the economy, the DCE disclosed that the assembly will partner with the private sector through the district Business Advisory Centre (BAC) to help develop the local economy and small scale industries.

He indicated that Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) would be involved in order to support them financially and socially.

Additionally, the assembly intends to develop the Bomfobiri Waterfalls and the Wildlife Sanctuary into first class tourism centers.


Education
Hon Asiamah also told participants at the meeting that the district’s Education Endowment Fund would be fully implemented and giving meaning to. On this note, a committee would be set up to determine the modalities for the running of the fund.


Health

The DCE said, health issues were being tackled with zeal.

Pointing out that, plans were far advanced in putting up some new CHIP Compounds in some communities in the district.

On accommodation for the police personnel, he said there was the need for the assembly to tackle it in other to attract more personnel into the district.

The DCE also charged the assembly members to initiate and implement developmental projects in their various electoral areas.  Adding, “the assembly will support every developmental projects initiated by an assembly member.”

Demolishing

Hon Asiamah also warned that henceforth structures without permits would be pulled down and culprit dealt with.

He therefore entreated all estate developers to obtain building permits before embarking on any development. He thus called on the assembly’s technical sub-committee to be proactive in the issuance of permits to estate developers.

He said, such policy if properly implemented will ensure proper layout which will ease the street and property naming exercise currently taking place nationwide.

Reports from the various subcommittees were debated upon and also adopted by the house. 

The sub committees were social services, works, agriculture; and environmental, water and sanitation.

The meeting was attended by the District Coordinating Director, Anthony Kwenin and heads of department.
