Parents in Kpone-Katamanso District of the Greater-Accra Region have been assured of the availability of food for their wards in schools which are on the School Feeding Programme.
Madam Patty Assan, Education Director for the Kpone-Katamanso District, told the Ghana News Agency that information gathered from the 22 basic schools on the programme on Tuesday when school re-opened, indicated that all the caterers provided food for the children as scheduled.
She said even though the Ghana School Feeding Programme Secretariat was yet to clear all the caterers’ arrears, some monies were released to them before vacation in April.
She stated that to ensure the availability of food for the children, her outfit and officials of the Secretariat met with the caterers during which the officials informed the caterers of their intention to provide them with rice and beans.
The Education Director, however, stated that while some of the caterers were properly feeding the children, in some schools the food dished was too little.
She, therefore, appealed to the caterers, to continue to feed the children with nutritious food, since their arrears would eventually be paid to them
Madam Assan reminded the caterers of the contract they signed to pre-finance the provision of food to the children.
She urged the Ghana School Feeding Programme Secretariat to always pay the caterers on time, to sustain the programme, since the delay in the payment, greatly affects the provision of food for the children.
The Kpone-Katamanso Education Director appealed to government to increase the 50 Ghana pesewas per child on the school feeding programme.
