The chiefs and people of Gbawe, in the Ga South district of the Greater Accra region have carried out a series of activities to commemorate the 50TH anniversary of the death of Nii Boye Kojo Quartey, the fifth chief of Gbawe.
The celebration is in rememberance of the remarkable achievement of the late chief, particularly the lead role he played in securing Gbawe lands.
Nii Adam Kwatei Quartey , the Djasetse of Gbawe and the fifth son of the late chief, enumerated the reasons for the celebration of the achievements of his late father, whom he described as a great and hardworking farmer.
He said 50 years ago , Nii Boye Kojo Quartey I suddenly fell ill while he, along with others, was demarcating the boundary of Gbawe lands at the Kaneshie First light area and died before reaching hospital.
He was grateful , however, that the elders who served with his father continued to work to unify the people of Gbawe ,which had resulted in peaceful existence of the people and also the development of the community.
In an address, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu, said although it was relatively small community, Gbawe had achieved what had made it an acclaimed reference point in governance, peace building, economic development, education, women;s empowerment, social justice and innovative traditional alternative dispute resolution.
She said Gbawe’s fame and prominence could mostly be attributed to the manner in which the community had managed its land, the greatest heritage bequeathed to the people.
She pointed out that the people of Gbawe are making a lot of progress because of there was a leadership that was upright and fair and which was recognized as such.
