Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, described the school as the fulfilment of a long-standing vision to improve educational opportunities for young people, particularly girls.
The school was initially established as a private institution by Madam Kate Abankwa, a native of Kwahu-Aduamoa, but collapsed following the introduction of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy. Its revival was made possible through the collective efforts of the chiefs and people of Kwahu-Aduamoa, the Abankwa family and the Ghana Education Service.
Hon. Awatey commended the stakeholders for their commitment and perseverance, stressing that education remains a vital investment in national development. She called for greater emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), entrepreneurship and digital skills to prepare girls for future opportunities.
She also urged the Kwahu Traditional Council, the District Assembly, the Education Directorate and the people of Kwahu to take ownership of the school and support its continued growth.
The Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, described girls’ education as essential to the nation’s future, noting that educating a girl benefits not only the individual but also her family and the wider community.
She encouraged the school’s inaugural class of 10 students to embrace the opportunity, work hard and overcome barriers to achieve their dreams.
The commissioning of the school is expected to strengthen educational opportunities for girls in Aduamoa and neighbouring communities while contributing to the development of the Kwahu area.
