The project, funded by E&H—a quarry company operating within the Akraman community—forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility aimed at supporting education and improving the welfare of pupils in the area.

The intervention follows concerns raised by community members over the lack of direct benefits from the operations of the quarry company. Residents had initially expressed dissatisfaction and hinted at possible resistance to the company’s activities.

However, after engagements and consultations involving the Municipal Chief Executive, an agreement was reached for the company to undertake a meaningful development project for the community. The construction of the canteen and bookshop is the result of that collaboration.

Commissioning the facility, Selorm Fummey Philibert commended E&H for responding positively to the concerns of the community and contributing to the development of education in the municipality.

He noted that the facility will not only provide a conducive environment for pupils to access meals but also improve access to learning materials.

Community members and school authorities expressed appreciation to both the Municipal Assembly and the company for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to the pupils and the wider community.

The new facility is expected to enhance teaching and learning while also strengthening the relationship between the company and the Akraman community.
