DVLA Office Inaugurated in Tano South

The initiative marks a significant step toward improving accessibility and convenience in accessing DVLA services.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Deputy Minister of Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey; the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Asiedu; the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tano South, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong; the Tano North MCE, Hon. Pius Opoku; the Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey; the Board Chairman of DVLA, Mr. George Spencer Quaye; the Queen Mother of the Bechem Traditional Area, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II; traditional leaders; clergy; security agencies; Assembly Members; Assembly staff; and members of the public.
In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, expressed pride in the milestone achievement, noting that the facility would bring lasting benefits to the people of Tano South and the Ahafo Region.
He commended the Minister of Transport, the Deputy Minister, the DVLA Chief Executive, and the Member of Parliament for their dedication in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
Hon. Frimpong highlighted that the new office would improve convenience, accessibility, and efficiency, as residents would no longer need to travel long distances to access DVLA services.
“This local DVLA office will enhance road safety compliance, reduce accidents caused by unlicensed and unregistered vehicles, and promote responsible road use,” he stated.
He urged residents to take full advantage of the facility and encouraged DVLA staff to maintain high standards of service delivery, while calling on stakeholders to work together to make Tano South a model municipality in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Charles Asiedu, described the inauguration as a defining moment in the constituency’s development.
He noted that the facility would bring immense benefits to the people and urged residents to utilize the services fully. He also disclosed that some staff of the office were recruited from within the constituency.
Hon. Asiedu expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Transport, DVLA, traditional authorities, the Municipal Assembly, and religious leaders for their support, and pledged to continue pursuing development in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
The Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who represented the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, reiterated government’s commitment to decentralising public services to improve access for citizens.
She highlighted the importance of the DVLA in promoting road safety through driver licensing, vehicle registration, and inspections, which ultimately help reduce accidents and save lives.
She also noted key achievements of the DVLA, including the clearance of over 440,000 backlog of driver’s licences, expansion of offices nationwide, and the introduction of digital platforms to enhance efficiency and transparency.
Hon. Affo-Toffey urged DVLA staff to uphold professionalism, integrity, and courtesy in service delivery and commended the DVLA Board, management, staff, and the Bechem Traditional Council for their contributions to the project.
The Chief Executive of DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, in his keynote address, stated that the new office reflects the Authority’s commitment to improving service delivery and enhancing road safety.
He announced that a new vehicle number plate system, to be produced locally and issued at the point of registration, will be introduced by early 2026 to improve vehicle traceability and security.
He also disclosed that DVLA personnel have been deployed to Ghanaian embassies to enable Ghanaians in the diaspora to acquire and renew their driver’s licences.
Mr. Kotey cautioned motorists against using the services of middlemen, popularly known as “goro boys,” who exploit clients, and advised them to deal directly with DVLA officials for transparent and cost-effective services.
He appealed to traditional authorities to allocate land for the construction of a permanent DVLA office to further enhance operations.
The Queen Mother of the Bechem Traditional Area, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II, expressed gratitude to the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Transport, and DVLA for bringing the facility to the area.
She assured that the community would maintain and fully utilise the office and revealed that land has already been allocated for a permanent DVLA facility.
She also appealed to the Ministry of Transport to provide buses for schools in Tano South to address transportation challenges in the education sector and encouraged residents to make good use of the new office.
