Addressing a mammoth gathering of chiefs and people of Ga Central Assembly, The Chief Justice in a speech read on his behalf, by Justice Samuel K. Marful Sau urged the public and the Bar to report members of the Judiciary or court staff who make unlawful demands in the discharge of their official duties to the Complaints Unit of the Judicial Service.

“This building represents the Rule of Law, and as such, the sitting Magistrate is expected to distribute justice without fear or favour, affection or ill will,” the Chief Justice stated.

“No one should pay monies before executing bail for suspects, and you must request receipts for every amount paid. When monies are paid to a beneficiary, no court staff is to keep such monies”, he warned

The Chief Justice said the court is going to serve about 10 communities in the municipality, including Awoshie, Anyaa, Santa Maria and Kwashiebu, as well as those who currently travel to Weija and Amasaman to seek justice.

He also applauded the Ga Central Municipal Assembly and all the stakeholders behind the building of the court and reminded other local assemblies of their obligation to continue to provide courtrooms for persons who seek justice at the district level so that their constitutional rights would not be denied.

The Deputy Judicial Secretary, Mr. Justice Boakye Yiadom, added that more staff would be posted to the court though the Magistrate who presided over the Amasaman Court, would sit on cases as his additional responsibility.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey, on his part, applauded his predecessor for starting the project in 2015 and also said, the commissioning of the court is an added achievement to the promotion of local governance and justice delivery.

Dr. Lamptey clarified that the first phase of the project was completed in June 2016 and the second phase in June 2019.

He stated confidently that the court would fast track cases, especially sanitation-related ones and those of default in the payment of rates which he believes will boost the Assembly’s revenue.

Some residents of the Municipalities expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the facility.
