Amenfi West (formerly Wassa Amenfi West) Municipal forms part of twenty three (23) Metropolitan, Municipalities and Districts in the Western Region of Ghana is located between Latitude 400’N and 500 40’N and Longitudes 10 45’ W and 20 10’W.
The district which was part of the erstwhile Wassa Amenfi District was established under the Legislative Instrument 1757 in 2004 with the Administrative Capital of the Municipality as Asankrangwa.
It has a total land area of 1,448.56 square kilometres and is bounded to the west by Sefwi-Akontombra District and Aowin Municipsal, the south by Jomoro Municipal, Ellembelle District and Nzema East Municipal, the east by Prestea Huni Valley Municipal and Amenfi Central District.
The population of the Municipality according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 92,152 with 47,361 males and 44,791 females.
