MMDCDs appeal for fair hearing when staff are reported

Mr. Samuel Donkor, acting President of the Association of MMDCD, and Coordinating Director of Tema Metro Assembly speaking on behalf of his colleagues at the 2017 Coordinating Directors Conference in Sunyani on the theme: “Today's Coordinating Director: Expectation from Office of the Head of Local Government Service and Peers” said in most cases, what is reported may not be the whole truth. “At least natural justice demands that one is given hearing before passing judgement on him or her”.

They have also called for among other things;

• Respect of seniority in the service especially when it comes to assigning positions and responsibilities to staff under your care. They expect that when it comes to posting of Coordinating Directors, Senior Coordinating Directors will be given the priority to head Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies first unless their competencies are questionable or in doubt.

• That consideration be given to timing for postings, as this year for instance, the postings came at the time they were preparing for MTDP and Budget and they had to leave in the midstream.

• Plead for less political interference in posting of staff

• Request that the service's own policy on duty tour with respect to posting as stipulated in the Human Resource Operational Manual, article 5.2.6.1 which provides a minimum of at least one tour (four years) and a maximum of two tours (eight years) in a situation, must be respected as frequent postings of Coordinating Directors have seriously affected their family lives and personal programmes.

• Reminded the Head of Service of their urgent request for the provision of strong and reliable vehicles for official duties which was made to the previous administration.

• That the Association of District Coordinating Directors, Ghana, will continue to enjoy the maximum support and cooperation they have been enjoying from the Head Office since the formation of the Association especially in organizing their Annual General Meetings.
