Kwabre East elevated to municipality
The Kwabre East Municipal Assembly has been inaugurated at a colourful ceremony at Mamponteng.

Giving his welcome address, the now Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu was grateful to the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the honour done the people of Kwabre East by elevating it to a Municipal status.

He was optimistic that the elevation will bring more development to the communities in the Municipality.

He also paid glowing tribute to all officials both dead and alive for their immense contribution to the success of the district reaching the Municipal status. He particularly was full of praise for the late Hon. Kofi Asante Frempong, the first Member of Parliament (MP) of the constituency in the fourth Republic, for the role he played in carving the Kwabre East district from Agona in the 1980s.

He also applauded the efforts of all the past chief executives, particularly Hon. Adams Iddisah who together with then sitting MP, Hon. Kofi Frimpong made frantic efforts by writing letters to the Ministry of Local Governemnt and Rural Development requesting for the District to be elevated.

Hon. Bonsu also recounted how he together with the current MP. Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah followed up with the documents at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to be given the assurance that the district will be among the list of the proposed districts to be elevated and the to be newly created districts to Parliament to enhance service delivery and promote socio-economic development of the country.

He also appealed to the stakeholders in the municipality to start the new journey based on trust, collaboration, co-ordination and networking. He prayed that we all move in the same direction and disallow any distraction towards the set goals and vision of the municipal.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Petroleum, and MP for Afigya Kwabre constituency, Hon. Owuraku Aidoo, the President, of the Republic reminded the assembly of the challenge that lies ahead of them as they get elevated.

He said they should find new ways of doing things to fully exploit the economic potentials of the municipal.

President Akufo Addo added that his administration has provided a coordinated programme of economic and social development policies from 2017 to 2024 that seeks to quicken Ghana’s economic transformation agenda into a prosperous country.

He therefore presented the legislative instrument mandating the elevation of the district to a municipal status to the Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director.

For her part, the MP, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah also thanked the government for heeding to the pleas of the people of Kwabre and also congratulated the past officials who played various roles in the materialization of this vision.

She also charged the current stakeholders to continue on the path of the predecessors to give the municipal the proper development that it has lacked in the past years.

The chairman of the occasion Nana Saasi Ayeboafo also thanked the President for the elevation and added that there could not have been a proper way to thank the people of Kwabre constituency for massively voting for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general presidential and parliamentary elections.

He was therefore optimistic that the elevation will also bring more development to every part of the municipality.

Present at the inauguration included traditional chiefs and queen mothers, clergy, imams, representatives from the various political parties, civil society groups, heads of departments and staff of the assembly.
