A 17-year-old boy, who is believed to be a wizard, has been shot and wounded by a hunter, while sitting on the top of a tree in a forest near Ankrakese in Obuasi.

Kwame Amevoh suffered gun-shot wounds on both arms and shoulders and is being treated at the New Adubease Government Hospital in Ashanti Region.

The hunter, James Ankrah, 37, who is currently on police remand, told the Obuasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Ayisi Addo, that he clearly saw Kwame as a squirrel and that he changed into a human being only after he had shot at him.

Interestingly, some residents in the community who spoke to the Spectator speculated on the incident and attributed it to witchcraft, alleging that Kwame could be a wizard and that he usually involved himself in weird activities at Ankrakese.

James was arrested by the Adause Atobease police after he reported himself on December 5, the day of the incident. He was arraigned before a circuit court in Obuasi on December 8.

His plea was not taken and the presiding judge, Mr Ayisi Addo, remanded him into police custody to reappear before the court on December 22.

Prosecuting, Inspector John Atiogbge, told the court that on the December 5, James went to the forest to hunt for game, at about 10 a.m.

He said James saw Kwame on the tree and shot at him at close range, using his single-barrel gun, wounding the boy on both arms and shoulders.

The court heard that the hunter, realising what he had done, took the boy to the hospital, after which he reported himself to the police.
