The team led by the Municipal Information Officer, Collins Aikins Akuffo, is expected to report back to the government.

The tour offered the team an opportunity to interact with the authorities of the Ghana Education Service at the regional office, parents and students who clamor for SHS placements issues in the country.

In an interview with the Eastern Regional Education Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mr. Asiedu Acheampong explained that the prevailing problems were associated with change of schools, track system, programme, residential status and self-placement.

In his explanation, he said the problem they had to do with somebody hijacking their system on the placement portal from 9th to 11th September and that is why they are encouraging all parents and students who did self-placement on this date to do it again to get their wards placed in their school of choice.

He said no headmistress or headmaster can give admission without the students name appearing on the computer placement system to their school and that emanates the sacking of students back home due to the change on the portal.

Mr. Asiedu Acheampong added some students did not get all the five selected schools at all and this was due to the grade, programme of the school and the total score of the students and in that case, the students have to do self-placement to get school of their choice.

The PRO was also amazed about the reporting of thousand students assembling at the black star square because the ministry have placed about ninety percent (90%) already, though they have few challenges which came up but it will not be that huge number reported and advice that we should not use politics in everything in Ghana and if care is not taken it will destroyed our future progression of the concept.

He also emphasized that in future they have to separate the green and gold placement in order to deal with the first batch placement differently, so that students and parents would not clamor for the SHS placement of their ward.

The team also spoke to some of the frustrated students and parents and one of the student called Ofosuah Asare Asante said; had Nsawam SHS, she had day status but she chose boarding and was not given. She came here for it to be changed so that she can go to her school if not she cannot attend that school due to the day status because she stays at Suhum.

Another parent also comment that her daughter had Adukrom Presby Senior High Technical school but when she went to the school she saw the daughter name on the notice board but the headmaster says the child name is not on the computer placement portal so she cannot be admitted in their school.

The team last point of call was at Koforidua Senior High and Technical School, over there we met Mr. Samuel Prince Foli, the headmaster of the school, whose story was no different, but said he is also experiencing the up and down changing of names of students on the school placement system but they are managing and the students have started coming to school though he is expecting huge number of students only few have reported and think it could be money issues because most parents came to ask permission for one week.

As of the time of reporting, records from the school shows that over 200 out 776 students made up of both ‘gold and green tracks’ have reported to school.
