WENCHI: Regional Minister assesses COVID-19 measures
The Bono Regional Minister Evelyn, Ama Kumi-Richardson has paid a working visit to Wenchi in a host of neighboring districts as part of monitoring and evaluating activities and measures implemented in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The visit held the Municipal and District Chief Executives (M/DCEs) in the area who chairs the Public Health Emergency Committees (PHECs) to account for their activities to prevent the importation and spread of the disease.
In a live radio broadcast on Wenchi based Royals 104.7 FM and linked up with a gang of radio stations simultaneously, the host MCE Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie presented a detail report on a master plan of all the programmes and activities being rolled out under his leadership to curb the disease and keep the Municipality safe. It includes Media & Publicity led by the Information Services Department (ISD), Security (Ghana Police Service, Immigration Service, Fire Service, Assembly City Guards) and Health & Sanitation (Ghana Health Service, Environmental Health, Zoom Lion, etc). Each was led by a team of professionals and Experts.
Programmes rolled out so far include public sensitization, Fumigation/disinfestation of Market Centres, Shift Market System, creation of multiple satellite markets, mounting of barriers at boundaries to check entry and exit of people and goods, Isolation Centre has been created at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, free distribution of Veronica buckets, hand Sanitizers, liquid soap, tissue, detergents, etc. Almost 2, 000 Nose Masks have also been distributed to Transport Unions - GPRTU, PROTOA, Taxi, and Cargo drivers as well as Market Women and Tricycle (Pragyia) Riders. 8, 000 more of Nose Masks to be distributed to the public. Self-Isolation has also been strongly advocated.
The Regional Minister was elated about the measures and commended the Municipal Assembly for its proactiveness. Mrs. Kumi-Richardson used the programme to explain into detail a Press Statement containing 12 directives by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) particularly about the suspension of operations of tricycles (Pragyia) in the region which raised concern from the public and petition by Motorcycle Owners Tricycle Riders Association. She urged all to cope and comply with all directives and measures implemented against COVID-19 for their own protection. Wenchi has still not recorded any case of Coronavirus.
The Minister for Planning and Member of Parliament for the area Prof George Gyan-Baffour met with the RM and exchanged pleasantries.
The DCEs for Tain and Banda also gave a brief on their activities.
