Wenchi Health Committee rolls out measures against Covid 19

The Wenchi Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee has rolled out some emergency measures to deal with the outbreak of the Coronavirus to protect and ensure incident-free jurisdiction as no incident has been recorded so far in the Municipality.

In an Address to inaugurate the Committee, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie noted that the roles and responsibilities of the Committee have been triggered mainly by the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID 19) being recorded in Accra, hence the call for emergency measures to prevent and protect the people from infection.

He cautioned against over-concentration on COVID 19 in order not to be overwhelmed by other diseases such as Polio, Meningitis, Yellow Fever, Measles, amongst others, urging the public not to spread fear and panic but spread calm and education on the disease.

The Municipal Coordinating Director Edward Abazing assured the Committee of the Assembly’s commitment to mobilize the needed resources in the midst of financial constraints.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Prince Quarshie gave a situational report on the disease and other ailments in the Municipality and announced the national interventional policies initiated by the Ghana Health Service, stressing that the Municipality had not recorded any case of Coronavirus.



As part of measures being rolled out, the Municipal Assembly has embarked on fumigation exercise at all public places including the Market Centres.

Arrangements have also been made for the procurement of Veronica Buckets and Hand Sanitizers to all public/government corporations to ensure personal hygiene.

All commercial and business entities and shops have been tasked to provide hand washing stands at their operational Centres.

The Wenchi Methodist Hospital has been provided with Personal Protective Equipment including goggles, gloves, tissues, and nose-masks for all Medical Staff.

The number of visitors daily has been reduced to two to a patient at the hospital and all other Health Centres in the Municipality.

The Information Services Department (ISD) and the Municipal Health Directorates have been tasked to fashion out collaborative publicity strategies and spearhead public sensitization in the Municipality.



Outlining security measures, the Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Cuthbet Aapengnuo disclosed that the Municipality has been zoned into four quadrants in regard to the boundaries with sister districts such as Wenchi –Tuobodom, Wenchi – Wa, Wenchi – Techiman and Wenchi – Sampa, to check entry and exit.

The number of Patrol Teams have been also increased and intensified to mount effective surveillance and restrictions on all social, political, religious and traditional activities.

Earlier, the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), at an emergency meeting, made resolutions to enforce the emergency directives by the President of the Republic.
