Chief Executive of the Krachi East District Assembly, Rapheal Kofi Ogyemoko is surprised about the refusal of residents to use access roads open up for them, as alternative to lake travel.
He said families are loosing precious lives just because people have refused to listen to expert advice and the assembly is worried about the negative posture adopted by residents.
The DCE disclosed that the assembly has spent so much to open up the 5.2 kilometer Kakraka Junction to Adakponu road; 12.1 kilometer Kakraka to Cement road; and 1.1 kilometer Cement Junction to Yadorae road which are all attempts by the assembly to ensure people access other communities without necessary crossing over the lake.
Mr. Ogyemoko expressed his frustration on the heels of recent boat disaster on the lake at Dambai in which some four persons were reported dead. He said even though the people said about four people died; only one body was retrieved from the lake and deposited at the mortuary.
More confusing according to the DCE is the refusal by residents to use life-jackets supplied to them through the efforts of Zoomlion and the district assembly to ensure safety of travelers on the lake.
Meanwhile, the District Security Committee (DISEC) is meeting to deliberate on the next line of action to ensure people adhere to safety measures that have been outlined for people travelling on the lake.
