The STEP project aims at supporting the youth of the district in skills training such as Cosmetology, Hairdressing, Dress making, Commercial Driving and Satellite Dish Installation. Berekum West District is amongst the thirty districts in Ghana and the only two in Bono region to benefit from this project.

On 14th February 2023, the project was launched at the Berekum West District Assembly Conference Hall.

Speaking at the program, the District Chief Executive of Berekum West, Dominic Oppong expressed his appreciation to the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo Addo and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide for including this district in such an enviable project.

The DCE also applauded the Member of Parliament for Berekum West Constituency, Mr. Kwaku Agyenim Boateng for lobbying to get Berekum West District to be selected for the project.

He also acknowledged the MP’s benevolence of buying some additional equipment aside those from the National Youth Authority. He urged the parents of the beneficiaries to assist the District Assembly in monitoring their wards as they commence their training to become responsible adults.

Hairdryers, Sewing Machines, Satellite Dishes and Cosmetology tools and kits were some of the equipment that were given to some of the youth of the district to enable them to be trained for employment and productivity in the district and the country at large.

An undisclosed sum of money was each given to Craftsmen and women in Tailoring, Hairdressing, Satellite Dish Installations and Cosmetology as capital requirement the beneficiaries must pay to be trained as apprentices.

The Deputy CEO of National Youth Authority, Mr. Nelson Owusu Ansah who chaired the program admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and support given to them while they take proper care of the working tools and equipment.

He also cautioned the Craftsmen and women to avoid being abusive or using the beneficiaries for their house chores and unnecessary errands since these learners look up to them for a better tomorrow.

Miss Abigail Danso who spoke on behalf of all the beneficiaries expressed her gratitude to the National Youth Authority and the District Assembly. The beneficiaries assured them of continuous hard work and discipline as they envisioned becoming purposeful to the district and the country.
