Persons with Disability rejoice in Ejisu

This year’s International Day of Persons Living with Disability has been marked at the forecourt of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region.

It event was under theme “building back better towards a disability”.

The day was marked with the aim to promote the right and wellbeing of persons with disability in the society, and to increase awareness of Persons Living with Disabilities in every aspect of living including politics, social, economic whiles empowering them to create opportunities for others like them.

Members of the group began their activities with a procession of brass band music through the principal streets of Ejisu Township and assembled at the forecourt of the Assembly.


They carried placards with inscriptions such as “Let our streets be disability friendly, stop discriminating against persons with disability and disability is not inability” among others.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Mr Samuel Oduro, noted that, the battle against the corona virus pandemic is still on and so members should adhere to all the protocol measures put in place and also endeavor to vaccinate so as to stay alive.


Mr Oduro added that, funding has been made to support them start their own businesses, adding that monies will be disbursed while beneficiaries will be monitored on how well the resources are being used.

He encouraged them that disability is not inability so they should believe in themselves and the sky will be their limit.

President of the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD), Mr. Wereko Agyako, on his part, said some of their members came for support during the pandemic and were given aid by the former MCE and pleaded with the new MCE to also do help them especially with a rehabilitation center to assist needy members.
