The Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly has threatened to pull down all wrongly sited structures in the area to restore sanity.

Mr Kwaku Kaakyire Oppong-Kyekyeku, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the situation where people built in waterways and reserved areas including roads was unacceptable.

This comes amid fast-paced urbanization of the area and the associated pressure on housing.

Addressing a community durbar held by the assembly at Afrancho, Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said they would make sure that the right things were done to stop the growing indiscipline.

The goal was to provide the platform for healthy engagement between the assembly and the people on the path to smooth development.

It was attended by heads of department, chiefs, unit committee and assembly members, religious and other identifiable groups from Afrancho, Bronkong, Krobo, Hemang Kyekyere, Bosie, Ntiribuoho and Botantia.

Similar durbars had earlier been organized at Atimatim, Tetrem, Boamang and Maase.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku reminded the people to pay their rates and fees to the assembly to strengthen its finances and enable it to support the development of the communities.

He promised fair and even distribution of projects.

Participants hailed the assembly’s decision to regularly interact with them to keep the communities adequately informed about its programmes. They therefore urged the assembly to sustain the programme.

They insisted that chiefs should be made to account for stool land revenue, pointing out that such monies should be channeled into community development.
