GOMOA E: Assembly elects new Presiding Member

MR Fredrick Joe Arthur, Assembly member for Gomoa Buduatta and staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana, has been elected the Presiding Member of the Gomoa East District Assembly.

MR Fredrick Joe Arthur, Assembly member for Gomoa Buduatta and staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana, has been elected the Presiding Member of the Gomoa East District Assembly.

He polled 34 votes out of a total of 40 votes during a second balloting.

During the first balloting both Mr Arthur and Mr Edward Mintah, Assembly member for Ekwamkrom Electoral Area, were not able to obtain the two-thirds majority required to win the election.

Mr Arthur, in the first round, obtained 25 votes with Mr Mintah polling 15 votes.

Mr Mintah, however, stepped down leaving Mr Arthur to become a sole candidate.

In a yes and no votes this time, 34 members said yes for Mr Arthur while the rest said no. 

Mr Moses Tia, Gomoa East Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), supervised the election.

Earlier, Mr Michael Tawiah, out-going Presiding Member, thanked the Assembly for cooperating with him during his tenure of office.

He called on them to offer similar support to Mr Arthur to help promote infrastructural development of the area.

Mr Tawiah later handed over the Gavel of the Assembly to Mr Arthur who expressed appreciation to the members for the confidence reposed in him.

Mrs Cynthia Andy, Gomoa Dawurampong Circuit Court Judge, swore Mr Arthur into office.

Mr Isaac Kingsley Ehunu-Armah, District Chief Executive for Gomoa East, asked the members to rally behind the new Presiding Member to facilitate the development of the area.
