The Ho West District assembly is gearing up itself to deal with sanitation management difficulties confronting metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the country.

The executive committee has identified some urgent measures that needed to be taken to avoid repeating mistakes of other districts that failed to plan well and are now inundated with sanitation problems.

Addressing assembly members at a meeting, the chief executive of the district, Samuel Ewoade said solid and liquid waste disposal especially in the more urbanized settlements like Tsito, Kpedze, Awudome, Dzolo and other towns such as Avatime communities was becoming increasingly challenging and required urgent attention.

As such, the executive committee of the assembly has proposed a number of measures to contain the situation. Among them include ensuring adequate distribution of waste containers at vantage points in communities, acquiring and developing permanent waste disposal sites at Kpedze, Awudome and Dzolo areas, extension of the Kpeve Water supply system to the district capital and to serve satellite communities along the immediate environs of the district capital.

Others include completion of all uncompleted water and sanitation projects abandoned in the district, while the assembly also makes a follow up on the Spanish Grant facility for the water project at Amedzofe.

These among other measures are believed to put the district’s sanitation issues in order for proper management.

The DCE therefore called for support from the assembly members to give backing to the measures for implementation.
