About 175 youth in the Nanumba South District in the Upper East Region are to received startup kits from the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) to enable them establish their own businesses.

Out of the number, 17 received motor tricycles.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the District Coordinator of LESDEP, Mr. Abdul-Razak Salifu urged the beneficiaries to use the facilities to engage in income generating activities so as to raise income to be able to pay back the credit facility.

According to the LESDEP District Coordinator, the items were given out to the beneficiaries at very subsidized price and they were expected to pay over a period of time.

He, therefore, appealed to them to ensure that they honour their part of the agreement, so that other people also benefit from the programme in the district.

Mr Salifu said the presentation of the items was part of government’s intention to support the youth with jobs to help reduce the social vices in society saying that he was optimistic that the items would go a long way to eradicate poverty in the district in particular and the country as whole.

He however assured those who had not received support to be patient since LESDEP would reach out to them soon.
