Berekum West District inaugurates Census Committee

An eight-member District Census Implementation Committee (DCIC) to oversee the implementation of the 2020 Population and Housing Census (PHC) has been inaugurated at Jinijini in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region of Ghana.

Mr. Isaac Osei, District Chief Executive who inaugurated the committee said, the importance of a census cannot be overemphasized as it serves as an interactive dialogue between users and producers of official statistics.

He said the United Nations is particularly concerned about having accurate data of countries hence it has recommended that every country should endeavour to undertake the population Census every 10 years. “Population and Housing Census is an indispensable governance tool required to ensure that good governance and democracy work for all.” He said.

The DCE tasked the members of the committee to work hard for the success of the 2020 Population and Housing Census and assured them of his unflinching support.



On his part, the Regional Statistician Mr. Amatus Sonviele Nababumah in a PowerPoint presentation said the exercise once successfully done will help the Assemblies to determine how to allocate resources. He said that over 150 field workers would be engaged for the exercise in the district, which will begin on June 28, 2020, with the slogan; "2020 PHC: You Count, Get Counted." He mentioned the introduction of technology in this year's exercise which he said has been termed E- Census will have results readily available.

The committee has Mr. Peter Maala, District Coordinating Director as chairman with Mr. Evans Appiah, District Director of the Ghana Statistical Service, Miss Alan Theresa Boakye-Yeboah, Information Officer and Mrs. Gloria Aggrey Kilson, Education Director as members.

The rest are Ms. Agnes Asiedu, Health Director, Nana Yeboah Kyere Dartey, Traditional Council Representative, Mr. Emmanuel Nimoh, Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and Mr. Emmanuel Agyei, District Planning Officer.

The chairman of the committee said the committee he leads is poised to deliver accurate data after the exercise. This he said is premised on the fact that all the enumerators will be recruited locally and the data collected will be validated. On behalf of the committee, promised to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them.
