The DCE, who disclosed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com in Accra, said the ban had become necessary due to the importance pupils in the district place on social gatherings at the expense of their education.
"One thing I have indentified is indiscipline among the pupils, indiscipline because 9:00, 10:00 12am, you still see pupils loitering around, in fact they have turned wake keepers, they are keeping wake," the DCE noted.
He attributed the district’s constant failure in Basic Education Certificate Examinations to negligence on the part of parents for failing to prevent their children from attending such programmes, adding that it has therefore become necessary for all stakeholders to play significant role in the fight to help improve education in the area.
He said, the bylaw when successfully passed, could also go a long way to reduce teenage pregnancies and school dropouts since children below the ages of 18 will be restricted from engaging in night activities that will eventually get them pregnant.
He further disclosed that the assembly would set aside funds from its share of the common fund to sponsor candidates who excel in their BECE results.
