Country Director of Pencils of Promise, Freeman Gobah in an interview revealed that they are in twenty one (21) districts in the Volta Region and three (3) districts in the Eastern Region.

He made this known during the sod cutting for the building of two classroom blocks at Botoku in the North Dayi constituency.

“We believe that for the foundation to be strong for teachers in the Junior High School, we need a strong foundation at the kindergarten and primary schools and we notice that most of our public schools do not have conducive kindergarten”

Again, “the transition of kindergarten from social warfare to the public system, a lot of our schools have primaries without kindergarten and we are doing this because of the deficit that we have seen in a lot of schools”.

Mr. Freeman Gobah recounted that six years ago, they noticed that the Volta Region did not have a lot of NGOs working in the educational space in the region and have not regretted.

In addition, three years ago they decided to move to the Eastern Region, “we are now in Yilo Krobo, Lower Manyer and Asogyaman.

“Communal spirit is lacking this days and we spent a lot of tie to engage the community of Botoku, for them to understand that they need to be drivers of development and should not be done by only the politicians. They can also be part just like our forefathers had done years back, we would bring the materials and pay for skilled labor to the tune of eighty percent of the project”.

He revealed that it is challenging times for the various Assemblies they have dealt with because they do not have resources to help put up kindergartens; in other districts it is the combination of Assemblies, individuals and the Member of Parliament.

He disclosed that Pencil of Promise also provide teacher support, adding over seventy-eight schools in the Volta Region have teachers from KG to primary six attend in-service training three times a year in different categories.
