ASANTE A S: PWDs receive support on valentine's day

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asante Akim South, Mr. Alexander Frimpong has presented items to some physically challenged persons in the Municipality to assist them in their socio-economic life.

Items presented include 7 deep freezers, fufu pounding machine, manual sewing machine, electric sewing machine, paddling machine, welding machine and other items.

Addressing the people, he indicated that the initiative was introduced by the erstwhile President Kufuor’s era where 2% of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) was allocated towards their welfare.

Further, he indicated that the current government has increased the allocation to 3% to ensure that their welfare was fully covered under the fund.

He added that the Disability Common Fund is a social protection program aimed at alleviating poverty among persons with disabilities and also to enhance their social image through dignified labour.

Mr. Frimpong said that under his tenure as MCE, he will ensure that resources allocated to Persons with Disability (PWD) in the Municipality gets to the right people without bias or favour.

He then entreated all the beneficiaries to put the items to judicious use in order to help improve their livelihoods.

The beneficiaries extended warm appreciation to the MCE and the government at large.
