The exercise, held at the offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Assembly premises in Juaso, was supervised by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, and the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development to ensure a smooth and transparent payment process.
The disbursement targeted verified beneficiaries, including elderly persons without adequate support, caregivers of orphans and vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities who lack the economic capacity to meet their basic needs.
The cash grants are intended to help beneficiary households cater for essential expenses, including healthcare, nutrition and educational needs, while providing financial relief to some of the most vulnerable members of society.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah emphasized the importance of regular social cash transfers in reducing poverty and providing a safety net for vulnerable residents against economic hardships.
She urged beneficiaries to manage the funds responsibly and prioritize essential household needs to improve their welfare and living conditions.
The Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development indicated that the exercise also provided an opportunity to educate beneficiaries on important social welfare issues, including healthcare, child protection and the renewal of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for beneficiary families.
Some caregivers who participated in the exercise expressed appreciation to the municipal leadership and social welfare officers for facilitating the payments and providing continued support to vulnerable households.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable individuals and families within the Asante Akim South Municipality.
