Minister pays courtesy call to Atwima Mponua District
The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr.George Mireku Duker led a delegation from his ministry to Ntobroso in the Atwima Mponua district on two important national assignments.

The District Chief Executive, Isaac Kofi Marfo , Member of Parliament Mr. Kwame Asiamah and the traditional authorities led by Ntobrosohene, Nana Atakora Mensah II welcomed the team.
The visit of the Deputy Minister was to address the unfortunate incident that led to the burning of excavators, a house and other valuable items at Ntobroso some few weeks ago by military personnel and also inaugurate the Atwima Mponua District Mining Committee. Mr. Isaac Kofi Marfo, the District Chief Executive commended the community for their restraint when the brutal burning of mining equipment happened some few weeks ago. He said his outfit is always in touch with the echelon of government to get the issues resolved as soon as possible.
The Member of Parliament, Isaac Kwame Asiamah echoed thewords of the DCE and asked for calm. He charged the crowd not to be forgetful for the development agenda of the NPP Government in their community. “Nananom,it’s the NPP Government that has given you electricity, water, school blocks and now a motorable road”.
He started amid claps and cheers from the indigenues. Addressing the charged gathering, Hon Duker assured the community that, Government is investigating the unfortunate issue and shallcompensate the affected family handsomely.
The livid Hon. Mireku Duker bemoaned the cruel activities by Changfan operators, which according to him are mining in the Offin River.“Nananom, I intentionally flew to this place with a Helicopter to ascertain the level of destruction; and I can say, it’s nerve wrecking and eye-sore”. Heposed.
He also stated that the government is putting measures in place to strengthen its approach in combating illegal mining. “Proper means of mining is what the government is working towards which will create employment for many and also preserve our natural resources”. He stated
The minister inaugurated and sworn into office a 6 member District Mining Committee to be chaired by the DCE, Isaac Kofi Marfo. Other members are Ernestina Carboo, Energy Commission; Dawood Abbas, EPA; Jephthah Sarfo, Assembly Rep, Nana Atakora Mensah, Traditional Authorities Rep and Emmanuel Kwadzo Bani also of Minerals commission. He thus charged the members to live up to expectation and get people to mine responsibly through standardized procedures.
Mr. Duker met the affected families and asked them to exercise restraint in these difficult times. He said he is going to report everything to the sector minister for immediate action.
