Skills development project for women launched in Asokwa municipality

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly through the department of social welfare and community development in collaboration with Women's Haven Africa, a non-profit organization (NPO) in the Asokwa Municipality has launched a women's skills development project.

The project seeks to train forty marginalized women in vocational and entrepreneurial skills (Re-using discarded or old fabrics to create something new) within the Asokwa Municipality in order to enable them develop sustainable livelihoods and reduce poverty.

The women’s skills development project is being implemented in partnership with plan international Ghana and funded by global affairs Canada.

The Asokwa Municipal director of social welfare and community development, Mr. Dickson Frimpong, facilitated a training on gender-based violence and the rights of persons with disability to empower the women to know their rights and to also take the training seriously in order to get a livelihood to support themselves and their families instead of begging on the streets.

He noted that the Municipal Assembly is ready to support and partner with the Women’s Haven Africa to effectively empower the deprived women.
