Speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, the Municipal Chief Executive, Anna Adukwe Addo said the indiscriminate parking of cars along the edges of the road is hampering free flow of traffic, possess danger to other road users and it is about time they did something to avert any unfortunate development.
She said the situation is so bad to the extent that drivers who perpetrate these things have no regard for road signs; “they even park on pedestrian crossings”.
However, in a spirit of goodwill, the Assembly has started two weeks sensitization programme under the auspices of the Information Services Department to get the public informed about the intended action.
After the two weeks, she said a taskforce would be unleashed on those recalcitrant drivers during which such cars would be clumped and fined.
The MCE said the Assembly is working to get more clamping devices for the exercise which would not only clear the roads for smooth vehicular flow but also a major revenue stream for the Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Information Officer at the Assembly, John Appiah said they are poised to get the message down to the people especially in areas identified as major points that drivers use as parking spots.
