At a recent inauguration ceremony held at Antwiagyeikrom on the 28th of February 2024, volunteers from the community were equipped with essential resources such as Wellington boots, cutlasses, helmets, gloves, and personal protective equipment (PPE) by RAIN and its partners. Mr. Kelvin Annim Quaye, representing RAIN, emphasized their commitment to sustainable agriculture, forest preservation, environmental protection, and gender empowerment within the district. He acknowledged the support of local leaders, including DO2 Theodora Winfred Acquah, in championing the fight against bushfires and educating the public on prevention measures.

DO1 Mr. Rashid Kwame Nasawu, the regional 2IC for Ghana Fire Service, commended RAIN for their proactive approach. He highlighted the detrimental impact of indiscriminate fires set by irresponsible farmers and hunters and urged professionalism among volunteers to realize their goals. He assured the group of the fire service's readiness to assist when needed.

Hon. Isaac Kofi Marfo, the District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts to revive volunteerism in the district. Reflecting on his personal experience of losing almost 40 acres of cocoa farm to fires in 2015, he underscored the importance of caution when handling fire. During the ceremony, volunteers from Akotaa and Antwiagyeikrom conducted a simulation exercise demonstrating their preparedness to combat bushfires.

The event was attended by heads of various departments including Agric Farouk Ahmed, Otuo Acheampong Rhabi (National Disaster Management Organization - NADMO), Jephthah Kwame Sarfo (Information Service Department), representatives from the fire department, chiefs, opinion leaders, and members of the media. The collaboration between RAIN, the Ghana Fire Service, and local authorities signifies a concerted effort to mitigate the threat of bushfires in the Atwima Mponua District, ensuring the safety of communities and the preservation of natural resources.
