New exhibition centre commissioned at Teteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm

Akuapem North Municipal Assembly under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday 25th November 2020 organized a mini-durbar on behalf of the Chiefs and people of Mampong-Akuapem at the forecourt of Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm to commission an exhibition center and other facilities in the farm.

In his welcome address, the MCE of Akuapem North Municipality, Barima Asiedu Larbi expressed happiness that the Municipal Assembly was associated with such a remarkable and historical feat. He pointed out that commissioning of the facility would boost tourism in the area and create employment avenues for the youth.

He stated that the objective of the Assembly’s management was to partner with Ghana Tourism Authority to develop the various tourist sites in the area so as to convert the entire municipality into a tourism hub where people would begin to visit.

On the same platform, the CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, was of the view that as part of his outfit’s mandate to reposition tourism in Ghana, especially at the pandemic era.

He explained that domestic tourism has been restructured to suit the current trend through product improvements and aggressive Market promotion.



Again, the refurbished site was funded by the tourism development fund, and that his outfit under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is taking pragmatic steps in the tourism industry so as to enhance systematically, all tourist sites across the country. He said the current work at the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm forms part of phase one of the redevelopment of the site and that phase2 would soon commence.

In her key-note address, the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi applauded all stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways in the facelift of the facility and the program in general. She stated that “Ghana is Cocoa and Cocoa is Ghana” and that cocoa was one of the products that made the country’s name famous on the globe. She stated that the launching of the facility was meant to reminisce and rewrite the name Tetteh Quarshie in gold letters.

She said in modern times, tourism forms part of most country’s foreign exchange earner and a source of job opportunities for its youth and that if people would like to visit the country, then we have no other alternative than to develop our tourist sites. She then declared the Tetteh Quarshie exhibition Centre launched.



Subsequently, The Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Eric Kwakye Dafuor and the M.P and Deputy Minister for Information Hon. Nana Ama Dokua each made statements to pay glowing tributes to Tetteh Quarshie. The Eastern Regional Minister said any country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for. To ascertain that assertion, the government of Ghana committed 15 million Euros for the said project in question.

He summed his statement by saying Tetteh Quarshie deserves to be celebrated and that “if Ghana earns glorify funds for major developments and upkeep of the country then all thanks to Tetteh Quarshie”. He stated.



The Minister of Tourism led a host of dignitaries were at the function to commission the exhibition centre.

The team also inspected the various apartments in the building namely a video room, souvenir Shop, Photo exhibition hall, Product exhibition hall, and the manager’s office.
