Skills training for small and micro enterprises ends in Akropong-Akuapem

The Business Advisory Centre under the Ghana Enterprise Agency on behalf of the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Friday 11th August, 2023 draw the curtains down a 3 months Business forum in Akropong-Akuapem under the theme “Youstart Ghana Jobs and Skill Training Programme”.

Participants were drawn from three sister districts of Akuapem North, Akuapem South and Okere Districts.

The Business Advisory Centre (BAC) is a one stop shop for starting and growing enterprises. They create an enabling environment for micro, small and medium term businesses to flourish. It was formerly established by the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) now Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA).

In her introductory remarks the host head of department of BAC in Akuapem North Municipal Madam Gifty Mariam Kyere said it has been a hectic three months of facilitating and mentoring of participants. She applauded them for their patience and attentiveness throughout the programme.

She advised them not to relent on their efforts but to put the knowledge and skills learnt into practice. She emphasize that most of the participants have their small scale businesses already and with the new ideas gained, they should be able and re-organize, manage and expand their businesses.

She encouraged and assured them that the doors of BAC are widely open and that the core mandate of the department is to offer business advice and help micro and small scale enterprises receive government subventions and financial help.

Again, she spared them on to go out and let the whole world know that they have acquired knowledge and skills. She also added that mega and huge business empires started in a very small way.

He also advised the youth not to wait for government to create jobs or absorb them into white colour jobs but they should use their own skill to create self-acclaim jobs capable of earning foreign exchange and put food on their families table.

Delivering his closing address the Hon. MCE of Akuapem North, Barima A.S Asiedu Larbi was so elated that a programme of the sort has been organized to equip the youth to gain Knowledge and vital skills to enhance their marketability.

This, he said would however help them earn a living and make the economy viable. Hon. Barima said the government in its efforts, has outlined several intervention programmes to reduce the rate of unemployment situation especially among the youth.

He said the “Youstart Ghana Jobs and Skill Project” is just the tip of the iceberg and that the main objective of government is to build an entrepreneurial society by creating at least 1 million jobs for the youth in the next 3 years starting from 2022 to 2025 with funding from the World Bank and support from the government of Ghana.

The Hon. MCE said this programme is a game changer because it has been designed to encourage and help the youth to reach their full potentials. He urged the participants to put the knowledge and skills learnt to good use.

At the end of the ceremony, all 32 participants were awarded participatory certificates and they were promised an undisclosed amount of money to help them sustain their businesses.
