Kintampo North Municipality launches 30 days countdown to census night

Population and Housing Census are very important for every country as it enables Governments to assess changes in the quality of housing and related developmental needs of a country.

It is in this regard that the Kintampo North Municipality launched its 30- day countdown to the nationwide 2021 Ghana Population and Housing Census (PHC) on the slogan "You Count, Get Counted” at the Assembly Hall.

In his welcome address, the Municipal Coordinating Director and chairman for the District Implementation Committee (DIC), Mr. Thaddeus Zaasan outlined some importance of population and housing census.

According to him, the census will ensure the provision of information at the local, district, regional and national levels, adding that this information would be useful for businesses, media, research institutions, and international organizations as the basis for informed decision-making for better economic growth and development outcomes.


He also revealed that information that will be taken by field workers include sex, age, births and deaths, migration, occupation, the quality of our housing, access to public services among others.

He stressed that, “MMDAs will continue to support the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) to ensure the successful conduct this year’s census through the District Census Implementation Committee”. He thus urged all to get counted.

On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo North Municipality, Mr. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe also out-lined some uniqueness of this year’s population and housing census. He noted that, for the first time in the history of Ghana, field officer will employ the use of tablets and the internet to gathers their information.

Officers, he added will also make use of rich geospatial information, online dashboards and comprehensive date quality assurance procedures, which will be the first time we shall receive census information tabulated by our constituencies”.

He asked all stakeholders to support this very important event by educating their people in the communities to corporate with the enumerators as all details will remain confidential.

He also asked the media to help in the publicity aspect of the census to help create the necessary awareness needed.
