Mr Roland Adatuu, Chief Executive Officer of Youth Link Ghana, has asserted that sexual immorality among pupils of basic schools in the Kassena-Nankana area significantly contribute to falling standards in education.

Mr Adatuu observed that data from a survey carried out by his outfit showed that the social vice invariably affected the performance of basic schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in recent times.

Mr Adatuu made the observation in a statement to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said he interacted with teachers and pupils of basic schools in the Kassena-Nankana area to appreciate the causes of the falling standards of education in basic schools in the area.

He noted that empirical evidence on the factors leading to poor performance in basic schools showed that sexual immorality among teenage girls, especially, has negative effect on the performance of girls in schools.

Mr Adatuu noted that most of the girls absenteeism at the Junior High school level was as a result of girls living with men or their colleagues, early marriages, or because they spend nights at entertainment grounds.

Mr Adatuu stressed the need to fight the phenomenon and keep the Girl-Child in school to develop her future potentials, since girls were the driving force for national development.

He called on parents, teachers and the public to live up to expectation in taking care of their wards and other girls in schools in their communities to give them better future.

Mr Adatuu urged the media, to as a matter of principle, take it upon itself to educate parents and children on the importance of education.
